10:19p - I think we already saw this part...
Here comes the winter storm warning again. Well, it's only a watch at the moment, but soon to become a warning. Up to eight inches of snow tomorrow night they say. If that materializes, this will be some sort of record setting winter I believe. Not for Chicago, which had the winter of 1978-9 and the winter of 1967. But for out here, this is quite remarkable. Oddly, I don't really mind the snow, but the fact that it's typically followed by a day or two of subzero temperatures, THAT I mind.
On the other paw, looking at the weather map, I discovered that I still hadn't seen all the possible warnings and watches the weather service can come up with. This evening much of Iowa has an "air stagnation watch" and somewhere else, Alaska I think, has an "avalanche warning." If we get another eight inches of snow, avalanches will be possible here too. Of course, they'll be collapsing piles of snow in parking lots or something. The pavement in the lot at the local supermarket only just emerged from under the ice yesterday...
All that aside, I actually got a warp measured and chained up ready to go on the loom today. It's cotton flake yarn in a gold color, and I noticed while working with it that it smells like daffodils. Very odd. The other two colors from the same source that go with it in this project are dark teal and a cranberry red. Neither smells like anything much but just cotton and dust. Must be something in that yellow dye. This warp will become thick cotton hand towels or dish towels for this year's guild challenge. It's a towel exchange. Weave as many towels as you like, and trade them for an equal number of towels made by other members. Should be interesting.
Tess is till giving me "the look" whenever I go near her, but it doesn't keep her from coming up to me for rubs and scritches. We're also on lamb watch. I expect Jetta to pop out one, or more likely two, any day now. Most of our ewes have made a habit of giving birth in subzero temperatures or when there's a blizzard.
current mood: amused (comment on this)
